A Legacy of Family on Perdido Key: the Heartfelt Story of a Beachfront Sandy Key Rental
When you step into this ground floor Sandy Key condo, you’re not just entering a vacation home—you’re walking into a living memory, a celebration of family, love, and the enduring charm of Perdido Key. I had the privilege of sitting down with Cathy, one of the proud stewards of this special property, and her lively one-year-old rescue dog, Amazing Grace. As Cathy shared her family’s journey to Perdido Key, it became clear that this Sandy Key condo isn’t just a beachfront retreat; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of connection and hospitality that defines our destination and the traditional vacation home experience we at Perdido Realty Vacations cherish and embody.
The story begins in 1997 when Pat, Cathy, Jeanne, and Gary (the children of Kitty and Edward Vincent, known to most as Mac) packed into Mac’s old Lincoln Continental and headed to Perdido Key in search of the perfect slice of paradise. The excursion was in honor of their parents who were gone, but had instilled a love for family AND the beach. After exploring every available property on Perdido Key, the family unanimously (well, almost unanimously—sorry, Pat!) chose their ground floor, beachfront Sandy Key condo. Its direct access to the beach won their hearts, and it wasn’t long before the property became a gathering place for family memories that have continued to thrive through multiple generations.
From the built-in bookshelves lovingly crafted by this family of avid readers, to the kitchen’s recent remodel featuring a tribute to Kitty and Mac’s legacy, every corner of this Sandy Key rental tells a story. Inside the owner’s pantry, Cathy’s niece scripted a beautiful, personalized haiku: “Perdido’s joy grows Kitty and Mac’s family legacy of love.” It’s a note that reminds the family and their personal visitors of the special bond they share and the generations of memories rooted in this cozy getaway. Even now, every visit to the condo is an opportunity for family members to add their own touches—whether it’s a new piece of décor, a book for the library, or simply the laughter of grandchildren playing on the beach just steps away.
This family has made it their mission to share not only the condo but also the spirit of their family’s love with guests. Cathy describes it as more than just a vacation rental—it’s a chance for visitors to step into a place filled with character, warmth, and a history that speaks to the essence of what makes Perdido Key so special. “We want every guest to feel like they’re part of our family,” Cathy shared, beaming with pride.
Today, three generations—along with Amazing Grace (the rescue dog) —keep that story alive, adding great energy with each new visit and sharing the family’s warmth with every guest who crosses the threshold. We have found that the rentals that are loved and cherished by their owners deliver a very special experience, reminiscent of family vacations from years past.
Myself, and the team at Perdido Realty Vacations are honored to play a small part in the family legacy this particular rental represents and to spread their unique sense of place to new generations visiting Perdido Key.
